VAT & GST Calculator

Add VAT or GST to a net price, or remove it from a tax-inclusive price, to see the net, tax and gross amounts. Calculates in your browser.

Tax amount

-

Net (before tax)-
Gross (with tax)-

Show the math

Adding tax multiplies up; removing tax divides the gross back out:

add: gross = net × (1 + rate)

remove: net = gross ÷ (1 + rate)

VAT and GST are the same idea under different names, enter your local standard or reduced rate. All math runs in your browser.

What this does

A VAT & GST calculator adds VAT or GST to a net price, or removes it from a tax-inclusive price, to show the net, tax, and gross amounts.

How to use it

  1. Enter the price.
  2. Enter the tax rate.
  3. Choose add or remove.
  4. Read net, tax, and gross.

How it works

VAT and GST are the same kind of value-added consumption tax under different names. Enter your local rate.

add: gross = net × (1 + rate); remove: net = gross ÷ (1 + rate)

Understanding your result

The split shows the net price, the tax portion, and the gross total, so you can see exactly how much of a price is tax. When removing tax, divide by one plus the rate rather than subtracting the percentage, or you will overstate the net. Always apply your own local rate.

Example

Removing 20% VAT from $120 leaves a $100 net price.
