Ingredient Recipe Scaler
Scale a whole recipe around one ingredient you have on hand. Enter how much of a key ingredient you have versus what the recipe calls for, and every other amount is adjusted to match. Calculates in your browser.

Scaled recipe
Show the math
The amount you have of the key ingredient sets one factor for the whole recipe:
factor = amount you have ÷ amount the recipe calls for
Handy when you are limited by one ingredient, say you only have 750 g of flour for a 500 g recipe. Every other ingredient is multiplied by the same factor so the ratios stay true.
What this does
An ingredient recipe scaler rescales a whole recipe around one ingredient you have on hand, adjusting every other amount to keep the ratios true.
How to use it
- Pick the ingredient you are limited by.
- Enter how much you have.
- Enter how much the recipe calls for.
- Read every other amount, rescaled.
How it works
That single factor multiplies every other ingredient, so the recipe stays in proportion whatever the anchor ingredient is.
factor = amount you have ÷ amount called for
Understanding your result
Anchoring on what you actually have keeps the recipe in proportion, but the same caution applies as any scaling: taste the seasoning and watch cooking times rather than trusting them to scale exactly. If the anchor amount is far from the original, sanity-check that the other quantities still make sense.
Example
With 750 g of flour for a 500 g recipe, everything scales by 1.5.

Frequently asked questions
When would I use this?
When one ingredient limits you, say you only have 750 g of flour but the recipe is written for 500 g. The tool finds the factor from that ingredient and applies it to everything else so the ratios stay true.
How is the factor calculated?
It is the amount you have divided by the amount the recipe calls for. That single factor multiplies every other ingredient in the recipe.
Does the key ingredient have to be flour?
No. Use any ingredient as the anchor (eggs, stock, sugar) whatever you are limited by. Just enter its name, what you have, and what the recipe wants.
Is my recipe stored?
No. All calculations happen locally in your browser.
