How it works
Each ingredient is a percentage of that total. A typical balm runs 25–35% wax; more wax is firmer, more oil softer. Use only lip-safe ingredients.

Understanding your result
The wax percentage sets the firmness: around 25 to 35 percent gives a balm that holds in a tube without dragging, less makes a softer pot balm, more makes it stiff and draggy. Use only lip-safe, ingestible ingredients and skin-safe colours, and pour a test stick first, since the firmness in the pot is hard to judge until it sets.
