Commission
-
Show the math
Commission is the sales amount times the rate, plus any base pay:
commission = sales × rate% · total = base pay + commission
This applies one flat rate to the whole sales amount, so it does not model tiered plans. The total is gross earnings, before tax. All math runs locally in your browser.
What this does
The commission calculator works out the commission earned on a sales amount at a percentage rate, and adds any base pay to give total earnings. It is built for salespeople, agents, and anyone paid on results.
How to use it
- Enter the total sales amount.
- Enter the commission rate as a percentage.
- Add a base pay if you receive one.
- Read the commission and total earnings.
How it works
The commission is the sales amount multiplied by the rate. Adding any fixed base pay gives the total earnings for the period.
commission = sales × rate%; total = base pay + commission
Understanding your result
The commission figure is your variable, performance-based pay, while base pay is the fixed floor you earn regardless of sales — together they are your gross earnings before tax. This is a flat single-rate calculation, so it will not reflect tiered structures where the rate rises after a threshold.
Example
A 5% commission on $20,000 of sales is $1,000, plus any base pay.
