Show the math

Pace, time, and distance are linked by one relationship:

pace = time ÷ distance · time = pace × distance

Speed is the inverse of pace: a 5:00 min/km pace is 12 km/h. The tool converts between kilometres and miles so you can read pace per km and per mile at a glance, whichever unit you train in.

What this does

A running pace calculator works out your pace, finish time, or distance, enter any two and it returns the third, with pace per km and per mile plus your average speed.

How it works

Pace is your time divided by distance. Give a distance and finish time for pace, or a pace and distance to solve for time. The tool also converts to average speed.

Pace = time ÷ distance

How to use it

  1. Choose what to solve for.
  2. Enter the two values you know.
  3. Pick a distance preset or type your own.
  4. Read your pace, time, or distance.

Understanding your result

Knowing your pace per km and per mile lets you set realistic targets and even splits for training and race day.

Example

Running 10 km in 50 minutes is a 5:00 min/km pace (about 8:03 min/mile) at 12 km/h.

Frequently asked questions

How is pace calculated?

Pace is simply your time divided by the distance. Enter a distance and a finish time and the tool returns minutes per kilometre and per mile, plus your average speed.

Can I find my finish time instead?

Yes. Switch the mode to solve for time and enter your target pace and distance — the tool multiplies them to estimate your finish time.

Which distances are supported?

Any distance. There are quick presets for 5K, 10K, half and full marathon, or you can type your own in kilometres or miles.

Is my data stored?

No. Everything is calculated locally in your browser.
