The same file prints larger at a lower DPI but with less detail, so the figure to weigh is viewing distance: 300 DPI is the standard for prints held in hand, but a large wall print or banner viewed from across a room looks fine at 150 or even less. Use the effective-DPI check before ordering a big print to confirm your file actually has the pixels for the size.
