Wider vessels need a hotter wick to melt right to the edge; too small leaves a tunnel, too large smokes and overheats the glass.
These are starting points, not guarantees. Wick choice also depends on your wax, fragrance load and dye, always burn-test for a full, clean melt pool before settling on a size, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
