You need to score

-

How it's worked out

Your current grade covers everything except the final. If the final is worth a fraction w of the course:

needed = (desired − current × (1 − w)) / w

A result above 100% means the target isn't reachable from the final alone; a result at or below 0% means you've already secured it. Everything is calculated in your browser.

What this does

A final grade calculator shows exactly what you need to score on your final exam to reach the overall grade you want, from your current grade and the final’s weight.

How to use it

  1. Enter your current grade.
  2. Enter the final’s weight.
  3. Enter your target overall grade.
  4. Read the score you need.

How it works

Over 100% means the target can’t be reached from the final alone; zero or below means you have already secured it.

needed = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight

Understanding your result

The needed score tells you exactly where you stand going into the final. If it comes out above 100 percent, the target is out of reach from the final alone and you should reset expectations or seek extra credit; if it is zero or below, the grade is already secured. Either way it turns a vague worry into a concrete number to aim for.

Example

An 88% target on an 85% with a 30%-weight final needs about 95%.
