How GPA is calculated
Each course's grade becomes grade points on a 4.0 scale, weighted by its credit hours:
GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) / Σ credits
This uses the common unweighted US scale where A and A+ are both 4.0, A− is 3.7, B+ is 3.3 and so on. Your school may weight honours or AP courses differently. Everything is computed in your browser.
What this does
A GPA calculator works out your grade point average on the 4.0 scale from your courses, grades, and credit hours, with quality points and total credits.
How to use it
- Enter each course name.
- Enter the letter grade.
- Enter the credit hours.
- Read your GPA.
How it works
Heavier courses count more. The common unweighted US scale runs A = 4.0 down to F = 0.0; schools that weight honours or AP courses differ.
GPA = Σ (grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits
Understanding your result
Because credits weight the average, a strong grade in a heavy course moves your GPA more than the same grade in a light one. The 4.0 figure only means something against your schools scale, so check whether yours weights honours or AP courses. Use the result to see how much a single term can shift a cumulative average, which is less than students often expect once many credits are banked.
Example
An A (4.0) in a 3-credit and a B (3.0) in a 3-credit course average a 3.5 GPA.

Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?
Each grade is converted to grade points on a 4.0 scale, multiplied by the course’s credit hours, summed, and divided by the total credits, so heavier courses count more.
Which grade scale is used?
The common unweighted US scale: A and A+ are 4.0, A− is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, and so on down to F at 0.0. Schools that weight honours or AP courses will differ.
Is anything stored?
No. Your courses and grades are processed entirely in your browser.
