How it works

Each unit occupies its own size plus the mortar joint. A standard brick works out to about 7 per square foot of wall face.

units = wall area ÷ (unit + joint) area

Understanding your result

The count already allows for the mortar joint and a waste margin, but order another 5 to 10 percent for breakage, cuts, and the inevitable rejects, since running short mid-wall means a second delivery and a colour you may not match. Use the mortar estimate as a starting point, as joint size and mixing practice shift consumption noticeably.
