How typing speed is measured
A "word" is counted as five characters, the standard used by typing tests. Your gross speed is the characters you typed divided by five, per minute; net speed subtracts uncorrected mistakes.

Understanding your result

Around 40 WPM is typical, 60 to 80 is fast, and over 100 is professional level. If accuracy is low, slow down deliberately: clean technique raises your net speed faster than racing does.
